I planted a tree one day
A small and spindly twig
Nurtured it with tender care
'Til it grew strong and bigIn all that I had given
With time and loving care
The tree returned more to me
With gifts beyond compare.
It's branches hovered oe'r me
To Shelter from Life's blast
It's leaves intwined to shield me
'Til summer's heat had past.
With precious fruit' 'tis laden
To nourish and sustain
I pluck this special treasure
And reach to pluck again.
My tree though one in number
Gives of itself you see
Returning Love I've given
It is a giving tree.
And so I learn a lesson
That Love when duly shared
Returns much more than given
To those who show they cared.
So give the treasure in you
To everyone you see
In giving, you're receiving
just like the giving tree.
